Dreaming the Future, we wonder where does art and the artist fit in these days? The internet is saturated with so many art classes, demos, sales and auctions, where do we fit in? We know we can’t go back. Galleries are temporarily closed, often gone virtual to online showings. So many paintings have to be sold for a studio to pay their rent. Plus the allure for Gallery Shows, and every Friday Art Walks, was the social mingling, the meet the artist moments, and the shared love of wonderful art with like minded collectors. Art was more than just some entertainment on the weekend.
Shows were such fun when you knew the people, saw the connection reflected in their eyes about a certain piece, and experienced their eagerness to bring home a treasured original brimming over with my energy. But there also were the unexpected happenings.
One time I had a new painting hung on the outside of my booth, titled Remembering the Mother. It had a moon, mountains, and a vista where you could see for miles. On the other side of the fence next to my booth, a father and his son were stopped in their tracks by the art. I walked over and told them the title and they nearly fell over. His wife, the boys mother, had just died, and they wanted to find some art to honor her. Art holds a magic all its own in moments like these.
Dreaming the future is always our personal journey.
The key lies in our feelings when we create, as well as the times we amaze ourselves at what is possible. Art opens the doors to discovering ourselves. And that is everything. The process of making art holds the mystery to the Unknown. We have to Trust ourselves to find the way, which is the scary part. Art may not always be beautiful masterpieces each time, but each is a step to revealing our innermost self. That’s the secret to life. Pausing, listening, creating from our soul gives gold as we move forward on our artist’s journey. Letting ourselves go, allowing truth to prevail, paves the way to beauty and love.
What brings you back to making art? How do you feel at those moments of creativity? This is a life well lived in mindfulness of the present moment. Let’s face our fears, become masters of our lives, and become the artist of our dreams.
Who you are Becoming in the process is the jewel in your crown. We need no other purpose than Becoming a full, rich, creator of art and our life. So show us your art. Create something from the heart and share it to expand the waves of goodness out into the Universe. Allow that to be your sole purpose, and your soul purpose, to move your bodies forward in love, peace, and kindness. See my latest Shares at Pat Gullett Designs. What reveals itself in the art becomes our wisdom, knowing, and play.
