Moving into the dark night of the year, we light the fires, remember love ones lost, and reflect on how life has changed. The days of less light, calling owls, and stories around the campfire, are the perfect pause to take stock of where we are in this strange life changing year. We each have a new story to tell, something never before experienced, felt, or imagined.
Halloween has always been Magical, with rituals, special costumes, and gifts given to children. But we are all part of something bigger. This is a pause in-between. We see all that has past, and wonder about the unknown future.
This is the season of letting go.
Letting go of old patterns, lightens us up with a new freedom in so many ways. Work and school have changed in basic day to day activities, gathering celebrations are viewed in a new light, and conscious living rules the day. This isn’t all bad. We become more aware of every moment.
As the earth winds down to winter, who have we been and who are we becoming in the time ahead? We reflect on the past as we equally look forward to our own becoming, and plan on what will be.
Moving into the dark night for me has always seemed to be an inner listening time. I don’t know the answers, but I believe that living in quiet time, asking questions, and writing whatever comes to mind, connects me with Spirit. I do the same listening with my art. Art must begin with some idea in mind and putting pencil to canvas. Once started, I pause, to hear guidance tell me what’s next. Halloween is especially a great time to connect with the Unknown. Surprising things come to me sometimes, but I always try them.
Is there anything you’ve just had to let go of? An actual thing you do, or a belief system that has ruled your life? I’ve let go of teaching and gathering, since I just don’t feel excited about doing them anymore. Life must excite, thrill, and ignite passion in you. Once I made that decision, my energy shifted. I could feel it! My students finished their projects, dropped off, and I was becoming something different and new….but what? I entered a great void. This was letting go, opening, and releasing.
So I did what I knew to do, made art. I took an expressive portraits class online that really pushed my abilities. Since then, I’ve been making art in every challenging, playful, and innovative way I can to learn and grow. Writing informs my purpose, while art guides my soul. Doing the best I can in whatever I try, keeping quality up, and putting my art into the world helps me stay accountable to myself….really, being personally happy is all that matters.
I believe that what you do today with passion, heart, and deep inner truth, creates your future life tomorrow. This is just from personal experience. It’s definitely pulling away from the old superficial world that told you what to do, who to be, and how to get there. Let’s just put that all aside. Experiment and see if doing your passion and heart’s desire opens new surprising doors of opportunities. See if you create your own Personal World that you love.
