The Power of Art is one of feeling, deep recognition, and love. Why do some art pieces speak to us while others fall short? Powerful Art, I believe, begins with meaningful art on your part. It’s far more than just a technique, or nice colors. That’s why it’s hard to relate to art pieces we do in a class, unless we can make them our own.
Meaningful art often begins with your story. So, you start somewhere, with an idea of your place, your experiences, your feelings, your people, and then let go so intuition can take over. Enter the Art Dream and allow the story to unfold in possibly many surprising ways.
I recently added a blue horizontal to my owl painting that has become a remembered stream for many. Plus, my turbulent seas opened the door to the unsettled feelings of life to others. A portrait of a contemplative woman has struck cords in some who lose themselves in her eyes. Bears speak their truths to viewers, while some men say the Indigenous Woman in the image is them. The Key to all of these has been to create from my truth. Then Magic happens.
Secondly, the power of art is felt when you are in sync with this moment in time. This New Moon cycle is one of stillness, gathering your pieces to make ready for the next shift of Seasons. A Transition Time holds rituals of different clothes, fires lit, and a migration to a new attitude. In addition, this is living in awareness and bringing all these feelings into your art. Preparing for changes consciously, empowers you and all you create. Symbols appear, shapes form, and colors shimmer.
Furthermore, connecting to your Power Animal also helps. Mine is Dragon. I’ve heard others say they are at war with their dragon….no, no, no. You’ll never win! The Dragon, Wolf, Bear, or Lion must be embraced. They become the passion in life, the way to move through obstacles, and the source of confidence if treated with respect.
Approach your art fearlessly as you follow your heart, and you’ve entered Art Alchemy.
