3 ways to align with your inner artist starts with releasing control. Nothing stops you faster than ‘trying’ to force your media to meet some sort of outcome. The strongest art ‘happens’, surprises, and is unique in its spontaneity. Become the feather on a breeze. A feather allows itself to be carried in the moment, with no end destination in mind. Float with the winds of change. With this open approach, you invite inspiration and Magic into your art and life.
I aligned with my inner artist to create the above watercolor painting because it was a challenge that excited me. My husband said that’s a gutsy move. Watercolor can be difficult. The masking fluid is definitely dealing with an unknown. Both depend on the atmosphere in the room, the right weight paper, and the age of everything. Too warm or cool, masking sitting on a shelf for too many months, changes the consistency, drying time, and application. But, oh well, I went for it anyway.
Secondly, follow your own path, as I did with this. I know it’s tempting to see what others are doing successfully, or try to figure out what people want to see from you, but your strongest path is your own. Not walking in others footsteps opens you to dig deeper, trust yourself more, and evolve in your own way. Art inspiration comes in ebb and flow. One day it pours out of you and the next day may find stillness, but be creative in some way every day.
Your job is to show up, have available materials ready, and listen. Being in the zone, while expecting to receive insights, opens the doors to amazing personal art. Good Art isn’t about pleasing others, being accepted, or selling to an audience. The best art is unique, mirrors your emotions, and comes from the heart. People can feel this in your work.
3 Ways to Align with Your Inner Artist Voice
Lastly, aligning with your inner artist, your truth, ends with just doing the best you can do today. That’s all you have to give, your gift to life. You are the sum total of all you’ve done up to this moment in time. You are your beliefs, experiences, and emotions brought into the present.
You, life, and your art are all works in progress. Allow and accept yourself to be in the process of Becoming. You don’t have to live up to anyone’s made up expectations. Make great choices for yourself every day, and if they don’t work out, make a new choice. Happiness, a calm inner life, as well as some growth each day, make for a wonderful way to live. This is your Livelihood. That is the sole purpose of life for each of us.
