How Art Play Puts You in Mindfulness

Island Dreams, See how I made this in the Video below. I added some contrast and details later.

Art Play puts you into mindfulness by taking you away from ‘thinking mind’. Thinking mind labels everything, is fast, and thinks it has all the answers. But in reality, it’s very superficial. Let thinking mind do your art and it lacks depth, feeling, and style.

Artist’s Mind comes from another place. It’s Mindfulness that engages a whole body response by counting on the heart’s intuition, and the gut’s instincts. These are fast responses, much faster than ‘thinking’ can put into words. Feelings give a deep knowing when things are right or wrong. Trusting intuition is the key, and something that needs to be remembered from our most ancient DNA.

This is your survival mode, and much needed at this time. You can develop it by doing Art Play exploration. Begin with sitting with anything you want to create and getting into its essence. Water, landscape, sky, flowers, people, all have a rhythm. Capture that in your painting and you create magic.

Secondly, Art Play puts you into mindfulness by being in the moment. Try new media, tools, and colors just to see what they do, how they contrast. Play with lots of inexpensive supplies to keep your discoveries fresh.

Thirdly, once you have a plan in mind, use bold strokes and colors. Your art shows your confidence or hesitation. Viewers can feel this.

Lastly, limit the color palette to work with just 3 colors plus white and dark to mix for different tones. In this way, the art becomes more harmonious, stronger, and works every time.

This is a time of New Normal. Consciously add creativity to your life by doing art, making music, or flowing in movement. Immerse your entire body in the moment. In addition, this technique slows down time, is good for balance away from the world, and creates healthy hormones for immunity and healing.

Dragonfly Art and Mentorship offer art play, lessons, and inspiration every week. By meeting Live once a month, you get coaching on your particular artist path. Since I don’t do 1 on 1 coaching, this gives you access to ask me anything, get advice on perspective or techniques, and a way to share your art. And Now the price is lower than ever to encourage your escape from the world and into your Artist’s Journey.
