Art As Your Story Brings Healing Balance

Art as Your Story, fills you with great images. Memories, events, and dreams, are all stored as pictures in your mind. The brain creates mind photos far faster than it can form words. When you paint a memory that triggers a deep feeling, you empower your painting with that emotion. People can feel that when they see it.

First of all, your body overflows with endorphins as the great memory hits the same part of the brain as the experience. In fact, reading something, painting an image, remembering an event, or actually living it, makes your brain come alive in similar ways. Your senses experience it in every way. Recalling the same calm, remembering the breezes, imagining the moon, starts the good chemicals in your body flowing, just as they did when you were there.

Secondly, art as your story, gives you a souvenir of beauty to cherish. Since making this painting, I’ve been carrying it around from room to room. I’ve dreamed of this pink sky and boats softly rocking in the bay. This scene is from a vacation experienced years ago, yet it’s still a very fresh beautiful memory in my mind.

Doing Art generates feelings that have energy, and a ripple affect. The more you go for the mood you want to feel, the more similar feelings you create. Beauty makes more beauty by multiplying itself.

Thirdly, creating art moves you forward in challenging times. My story, balanced by the inner peace of doing Art, sustained me through divorce, single parenting, finding new jobs, and caring for my Mom in hospice. When you can’t control the world ‘out there’, allow art to be your balance and enter the inner landscape of dreams, memories, and peace. It’s the really healthy way to live.

I never took to art being a catharsis of ugly, painful, hands on therapy. Why would you want to relive those experiences? Instead, make art of your healing. What beauty do you wish to live in your life? Pain begets more pain, just as light creates more light. Create art showing the colors, symbols, and images as though they were healed. How do you want to feel? Create that. You will do yourself a great service.
